SpiritHorse Liberty History: In 3 short years of operation, SpiritHorse Liberty has heard two children speak their first words and one child 4 1/2 years old make his first sentence while talking to his horse. Two children sat up for the first time. One 5 year old gained enough trunk strength to sit alone on the floor. Three students went from making D’s & C’s in school to the A/B honor roll. Six have increased their attention span from 5 to 10 minutes to 30 to 45 minutes.
Each lesson includes horse management incorporating responsibility and ownership. Each student, to the best of his/her ability leads, grooms, and tacks up. While riding, each student’s individual needs such as speech, sensory, balance, behavior, cognitive processing, etc., are being addressed through horse therapy. Lessons are approximately one hour weekly.
